Another Allergic Reaction

So after our daughter failed venom immunotherapy shots, we started the process of Xolair shots. The goal is that the shots will reduce her allergic response.

Over the course of 3 months, she received 5 shots of Xoliar. The shots themselves are a thick liquid which makes them unpleasant. Fatigue has been one of the primary side effects.

The week after her 5th shot of Xolair, we started back over with venom therapy shots. She received one venom shot every 30 minutes for a total of 3 rounds. We waited, looking for any reactions, and all was well.

We were so happy that we finally had some success after the months of struggle.

Then Friday evening, over 48 hours after her venom shots, she came to us saying she was feeling really itchy. Within 10 minutes she said that her mouth and nose felt itchy and her throat felt like it had a lump. Soon she had cold chills, nausea, and very lightheaded and a little disoriented. We got her into the car for another trip to the ER so they give her medicine and monitor. A few hours later, she was back home feeling better, just really tired.

After talking with her doctor, we have decided to stop all venom therapy until we do more testing. While a any allergic reaction 48 hours later is rare, it is possible.
