A really delicious twist on a traditional tomato sauce is this pasta sauce with cream. We usually serve it over pasta with breaded chicken breasts. However, the leftovers (if there are any) are usually eaten as a dip sauce with a great crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 Tbs butter

  • 3 Tbs oil

  • 1 tsp minced garlic

  • 3 cups fresh OR 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes

  • 1 Tbs chopped fresh basil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional - Italian seasoning, rosemary, red pepper flakes

  • 8 oz heavy cream

  • 8 oz milk or half and half

Step 1

Add the butter and oil to the pan over low-medium heat until the butter is melted. Add the onions and saute for a few minutes. Add the minced garlic. Saute until tender.

Step 2

Add the diced tomatoes to pan and stir. Add fresh basil, salt, pepper and seasoning. Simmer for 20 minutes until tomatoes are soft. Remove from heat and let cool.

Step 3
Add cream and milk to tomatoes and spices. Stir well to mix. Once mixed, place back on the stove on low to keep warm. Image
