Savannah & Jekyll Island
Because our plan for the long weekend got cancelled, we took an impromptu trip to the east coast of Georgia. Because we had never visited this area before, we knew that we would just be seeing the highlights. Our first day was spent walking around historic Savannah.
We started by walking into historic Savannah near the Savannah River. We loved seeing the old sailing ships and warehouses near the water. We started by grabbing some food at a restaurant set in one of the old buildings; the floor was old ballast stones.
We spent most of the day exploring. The town has 22 squares or parks which have fountains, memorials, and more. We started at the river and walked all the way to Forsyth Park, the largest.
Along the way, we did some shopping at some of the small boutiques and stores such as Paris Market. The window displays were so inviting.
After all that walking, we needed a snack and grabbed ice cream at Leopolds and walked through the night streets with string lights.
The next day we headed across the bridge to Jekyll Island. We visited the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and learned about the rescue and rehabilitation of Atlantic Ocean sea turtles.
Afterward we headed to the north side island to visit Driftwood Beach. A fog rolled in while we were driving and by the time we arrived, we could barely see the ocean.
It created an ethereal, other-worldly feeling place with all the trees and driftwood.
